Organization Hacks for Neurodivergent Minds

How are we almost all the way through February, ya’ll!?! Today I’m bringing you some early spring cleaning tips and hacks for neurodivergent minds. When the air starts getting warmer and the frost recedes many folks start thinking about spring cleaning. However it can be really challenging for folks to feel prepared to undergo spring cleaning.

Consider these three neurodivergent friendly approaches to cleaning that doesn’t leave you feeling worn out and ready to move homes at the end:

  • “Out of sight, out of mind” solutions: Clear storage bins, labels, and visual reminders.

While it does not look like a magazine, having your belongings separated into clear bins can help you get things back to their home when you are done and can make clearing up at the end of the day easier.

  • Using digital tools (Google Calendar, Notion, ADHD-friendly planner apps).

Feeling unsure of how to plan your Spring cleaning project? Consider scheduling time in your day so that you might be more likely to follow through. Something about having things on your plan for the day can make things feel less daunting.

  • The two-minute rule for quick, low-energy organization habits.

A favorite tools of mine for maintaining the house is setting a two minute timer (or a five minute timer if youre feeling adventurous and see how much you can pick up and put back. The real trick here is practicing giving yourself praise for whatever you got done in those few minutes. Two minutes is better than zero minutes, and the only way to get to a clean home is to get started. Set realistic expectations for yourself!
